I have a customer that has a TDS 600 that would like to have there oce moved to a new location. We are currently servicing there HP DesignJet 5500's and we are moving them but OCE will not help them move the TDS 600 and they asked us if we can move it for them. I have worked on the 400 series printers but not the 600's. The big issue is that they are on the second floor with only stairs, the new location has an elevator so that should be fine. Any suggestions on how to move this for them?

Thanks,
Alan

Go figure, Oce won't help. They will if they are paid, and a large sum at that. Whatever you do, use a stair climber!!! and keep it as level as possible. Have lots of brawn there!! Good luck!!

If the customer has a service contract with Oce, then a service ticket should be opened to have an Oce tech visit to prep the system for transport.

I recommend:

1. removing the developer mix from the developer. save it and reuse it unless it is near end of life. keep it clean from contamination.

2. wrap the OPC (drum) in paper and reinstall.

3. put the empty developer unit back in place to hold the drum steady.

4. secure the printhead with the transport screws, which may still be with the machine. there are two holes on the ends which will lock the printhead in position when the coarse-thread screws are inserted. you want the printhead raised up a bit and locked so it does not contact the drum during transport.

5. if you have the original paper drawer transport locking hardware, secure the drawers with it. this is done by removing the side covers and screwing the long machine screws into each drawer. it would be good to have the brass spacers (stand offs) on the screws. sometimes they fall down inside the machine when the screws are removed during system installation. otherwise, tape or band the drawers shut. DO NOT let the movers place a strap tightly around the midsection, as I have seen this crush down the top cover and damage the fuser (rear) cover as well.

6. scanner: shim the ends of the exposure lamp with paper, cardboard, or ??? to prevent rattling /breakage. lift the original cover and place paper on the glass to protect. there are transport locking screws for the cover, but you may not have/find them. after the scanner is moved (carefully to protect optics/alignment), the scanner mirror may need to be carefully cleaned. remove the rear cover to gain access, and do not scratch the reflective surface. you may use a horse hair brush or similar to clean it. a soft, lint-free cloth will work too.
