I have a 7170 that boots up to the Windows desktop and says Initializing, but never gets any further than that. Unattend doesn't start, and I can't manually start Unattend or the UI.

I'm guessing that I need to rewrite the system software, but I wanted to check for a second opinion.

It would be a heck of a lot easier than trying to troubleshoot this.

I would just re-ghost it as it only takes a couple minutes.

If that doesn't work, then we can look at other options.

I would run a check disk for errors utility from that desktop, reboot the IPS and wait for it to scan and repair the hard drive, it has worked for me several times, unattend should show up then, if not, re-ghosting would be the answer.

One other thing that just popped into my little brain....a while ago if you didn't have paper in the printer when first powering it on this would happen. This has subsequently been fixed; BUT, regressions can happen.

Make sure that there is at least paper in roll deck 1.

I've had several machines do this. The only way I can fix it is to reinstall from cd. what version of software are you running. I've seen it with 8.0.75

I have seen this more times than I care to count.........
Sometimes a check disc will fix it, sometimes just reseating the IF card in the controller will do it, sometimes an "internal reghost" via the GUI will fix but sometimes you have to do a reimage via a disc . Or somtimes reloading the factory unattend .ini files.

I have seen this alot on version 8.0.75 but I'm not sure if ver.8.0.447-02 has corrected this issue or not.????????????
