| it shows a picture of a scanner to a computer but you can't access buds or any service modes in the scanner and the buttons dont work. it scans fine to file for storing and will print from the stored file but you cant use it as a copier. customer states it has been like this for a year and they just obtained a 2000 printer and relized they had a problem |

Are you sure this is a 2050 scanner? what I am going to tell you came out of the 2200 manual, but is exactly what you describe.
The scanner is likely in scan only mode. Hold the "4" key and "start" key while powering the scanner on. This should put you in copy mode, then put it in service mode. While holding "." press "1" "3" "5"
This should work.

P.S. BUD 294 determines if the scanner comes on to copy or scan only mode.
0=copy
