I have a problem with an older 2000, one of the originals, but low clicks 85,000. It started printing 3 3.5 inch bands spaced 1 inch apart down the center of the print. Bands appear to be smeared toner. Toner builds up on the drum and cleaner roller. I have replaced the toner in the developer and cleaned the drum with water. The problem stopped for about three prints than came back. Anyboby got a clue?

Make sure the charge wire and grid are clean. If the drum dosn't get a charge in a certain area, this will happen. the wires can get dirty in certain spots, or the wire are arching out on the rail or in the block. The earlier 2k's don't have the E-51 error and you will see the copy quality issues instead. I sometimes wish it didn't give the error on the new ones as its easier to figure out which charge has the problem when you can see the image issue. Anyway, it can be masked, just an extra step.
Good luck!

One "tech tip" that I seem to remember working was taking the "L" shaped bracket out of the dev. unit. It was right under the toner hopper. That stopped the "tracks" for me.

I have seen this before. It was caused by the fuser gate. Check for tone buildup on the gate.(TB-K66-31 ) Clean it and check it if it's straight. If not, replace it.Also try printing while you have the cover(where the solenoid is) removed and watch (listen too) the solenoid /gate work.
Another thing that might help you is installing the inner spacer kit(TB-K66-36 and TB-K6643b). It will keep the paper down more where it's needed and should not buckle before it goes to the gate(fuser) area.
Last thing to look for is loose starwheels((TB-K66-45). Do yourself a huge favor and replace them with the updated ones.
Hope this helps

It was the cleaner blade for the cleaner roller not making enough contact to the roller. What stumped me was the regularity of the bands. I have seen the same thing only the bands are not uniform and not as consistant as this was. Just your average humbling experience

I was just going to post to check the scraper blade in the dev unit. Glad you found it. Also, if it is an older unit you should remove the L bracket mounted to the toner separator plate. And maybe even unplug the right side toner sensor. You don't need it.

I have also found that on the older 2K's it helps to apply a layer or 2 of electrical tape between the center bracket (f/ scraper blade) and the inside frame of the dev. unit. It helps to increase the pressure. I did this with all my older 2K's.
